JUNE 1ST, 2012: CASH MOB

The Canby Main Street and Chamber of Commerce are coordinating CASH MOBS. What is a CASH MOB, you ask? CASH MOBS are a an organized effort by the community to commit to spending $10 to help support local businesses. The cash mob location will not be announced until June 1st at 6:00pm in front of City Hall. At 6:15pm the cash mob location will be announced and we’ll all go together to buy in the masses! After the cash mob, we’ll go get dinner and drinks at the specified location to talk about what we’ve purchased and meet new friends.

Join us in our cash mob efforts! Check our Canby Main Street Facebook page for more updates!

Where is our Focus?

Canby Main Street is a program of the Canby Urban Renewal Agency. As a program of the Urban Renewal Agency, our boundary is within the Canby Urban Renewal District and the Downtown Canby Plan Design Overlay District. Since this is a rather large area for such a new program, for now Canby Main Street is focusing its energies in the historic business district of downtown Canby.

A Brief History of Canby

Four-Point Approach ©:

By following the National Trust’s Main Street Four-Point Approach: organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring, Main Street programs nationwide have been responsible for the revitalization of commercial corridors and communities. Canby Main Street operates very similarly to the national model and is working on committee development and goal setting as part of the 2011-2012 work plan.

The National Main Street program model is a great example of bringing community and business leaders together to foster private and public investment in historic downtowns.

How We Work:

The Canby Urban Renewal Agency (URA) hired a full time staff member in 2010 to start work on the Urban Renewal Plan as it relates to downtown economic development. Some of the Main Street program goals established by the URA include:

  • Facade Improvements
  • Fixed or long term marketing and beautification projects
  • Business assistance and workshops
  • Mixed use development and housing options
  • Business diversification
